Using a digital micro mirror device (DMD) as a high-speed spatial light modulator (SLM), a spiral slice sequence obtained from voxelization of a 3D object's surface model is projected onto a rotating spiral screen. Based on the visual persistence effect, the slice sequence that changes in time and speed is perceived by the human eye as a three-dimensional image with real physical depth.
